Windows users are happy! Justice is finally demonstrated! We released the first AdGuard VPN Alpha version for Windows. We are very happy to introduce the results of several developer team work together.

Response time (ping)

First, the first very interesting feature is ping. Remind you: ping means a variable that displays the server response time. The lower the variable, the faster your VPN connection. Select the location you think the best! Perhaps the fastest server node can also be connected.

As far as we know, there is actually a lot of VPNs can display ping. But we are different from those! This is the first step in creating strong competitive products.

Two tunnel modes

Please do not worry! Basically, there are two options: regular mode and selection mode. In the first mode, all traffic is forwarded through the ADGUARD VPN (except for websites from the user to the exclusive list to work on all sites). In the second mode, the operation mode is opposite. Only the site content added to the exclusion list is forwarded through the Adguard VPN. Simply put, you can choose where, and whether you want to use VPN, and one-click switch mode. This is the second step.

Two VPN mode of operation *

This part of the article is with an asterisk. This is more than the above difficulties. We have to talk about some technical aspects of VPN. If you are a novice to this question, let’s get it clear together 🙂

The first thing to say is that our VPN has two operating modes:

VPN. It uses a network root drive to run in the system layer. This mode of operation is very strong and can be used to filter all of the traffic traffic.

SOCKS5. It can be said that the horizontal level of this mode is higher than the first, but is not in the system layer, while at the client layer.

So how do VPN runs in technology?

In VPN mode, our system driver gets all outgoing traffic and forward it through VPN (of course, the mode also considers tunnel mode and user-specified exclusion list).

In SOCKS5 mode, traffic is forwarded through the local port (the port of the local host). We create and listen to the port at a specific local port to transfer incoming traffic through the VPN. Users can change the browser settings (or using plugins that have this feature) transfer traffic.

Most likely, the second mode is very practical. For example, you can choose whether to connect to VPN on the same site. Only traffic sent to a specific port will pass through VPN. Very convenient! You can enjoy it! Socks5 “Wonderful” setting is the third step.

Future blueprint

The AdGuard VPN currently applied to Windows is still not mature enough, but we plan to release stable edition as soon as possible. Of course, we are very expected to be helpful and feedback as usual. After the Alpha version was released, we immediately started adopting feedback.
